The quantum description of our universe is recognized as the best available, so far. Personally, I love it. However, studying isolated quantum systems does not make the above description all-inclusive, as there always exists an environment that most often plays an utterly fundamental role. Quantum systems with a quantum environment go under the name of Open Quantum Systems (OQS)
Research on OQS dynamics aims at obtaining a satisfactory description of how a quantum system evolves not only due to its internal interactions but also because of its coupling with some environment, that can be the medium via which the fragile quantum properties are used, or the apparatus that allows one to extract and manipulate quantum information, or even the physical system wrt whose state some fundamental parameters are defined. In this framework, I like to see my work as growing into three branches, each characterized by different levels of concreteness and visionariness
